It’s not uncommon for a child to be afraid of going to the dentist to have a cavity filled or undergo another form of dental treatment. At Children’s Dentistry of Stuart, we understand these worries and strive to do all we can to help our young patients through the process. As a trusted children’s sedation dentist in the Stuart and Palm City, FL area, one of the ways we accomplish this is by administering conscious sedation to alleviate a child’s fears.

About Conscious Sedation at Your Stuart, FL Children’s Dentist

Drs. Nancy and Sugar use conscious sedation to suppress a patient’s consciousness and reduce a patient’s fear and anxiety. Minimal conscious sedation is most commonly used and is achieved through taking medication orally. Conscious sedation will typically be accompanied with nitrous oxide and local anesthetics that are meant to numb a patient to any pain.

Administering the Sedatives

Before the procedure starts, your child will receive a pre-sedation physical evaluation by the doctor. The sedative drugs will then be delivered in a snack such as a pudding or applesauce. After these sedatives are administered, the dental treatment will be able to be performed without any worries. These drugs are safe, fast-acting, and will leave your child’s system quickly.

After the Dental Treatment

After the dental treatment is completed, you’ll wait until your child’s vital signs return to normal. It’s important to let your child take the rest of the day off; you or another adult should monitor him or her throughout the day.
